Biography
Dr. Barbul joins our surgical faculty as Professor in the Division of General Surgery after serving as Professor of Surgery at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD and Medical Director of Operating Rooms/Vice Chairman, Department of Surgery, Medstar Washington Hospital Center, Washington, DC.His clinical areas of interest include surgical procedures involving the GI tract, hernia repair, complex wounds, surgical nutrition and a broad range of other general surgical procedures. Dr. Barbul is currently expanding a specialty treatment program for patients with gastroparesis, a growing population of chronically ill patients who have unique gastric/digestive conditions due to diabetes, and other health issues. Dr. Barbul is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. For his contributions to wound healing, he has been presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Wound Healing Society of America.

Surgical nutrition, amino acid metabolism and research pertaining to the treatment of wound healing.
